Find out everything you want to know about how the bus operates, and how you can use this fantastic South Gippsland public transport service.

  • Who can use the Sandy Point eBus?
    The bus may be used by any local residents, local groups, holiday makers or visitors to Sandy Point or the Waratah Bay area. It can be booked for an individual rider, a family, or any group wishing to travel together.
  • What does it cost? How do I pay?
    Your fare is your DONATION. Please view our Zone Map below for suggested minimum per person each way donation amounts.   • Where does my donation go?
    Our Sandy eBus is a new service in a 2 year trial period. The drivers and admin are all local volunteers. The money donated goes toward running costs, maintenance, office costs, insurance, etc and after the trial we will need to have some reserves to cover these and unexpected costs moving forward.
  • Can the bus be booked for a group excursion, day trip, or private event?
    Yes, subject to availability. The booking form has a check box to be ticked if you wish to book the whole bus.
  • How many people can fit on the bus?
    The bus can take up to 9 passengers, including one wheelchair passenger.
  • Where does the bus go to?
    You can request the destination you need to get to. The bus can provide transport in and around Sandy Point and Waratah Bay. It can also travel to other South Gippsland locations depending on available EV charging facilities. We often travel to Fish Creek, Foster, Leongatha, Inverloch, Wonthaggi.
  • Where does the bus pick up from?
    You can request the pick up point. Let us know your needs and we will agree on suitable single or multiple locations.
  • Do I need to book?
    Yes. We ask you to book 24 hours in advance so that we can ensure that we have an allocated driver available and the bus is charged and ready to go. If you have a more immediate request please call us to discuss on 0456 210 188

  • How do I cancel or change a booking?
    Please contact us (preferably with 24 hours’ notice) on 0456 210 188
  • Who drives the bus?
    Our drivers are local volunteers. They are licensed and trained, and have a current Working with Children Check. When a booking is requested we then allocate an available driver for the trip.
  • Can I self drive for my group booking?
    No, all drivers need to be one of our previously trained and approved drivers.
  • Can I access the service with a wheelchair?
    Yes, the bus has a wheelchair lift. Let us know your needs when booking.
  • Can I have luggage / surfboard / bike / pram etc?
    Please let us know if you are bringing any bulky items so we can plan for space on board. At this stage we can’t carry bicycles but are looking into ways of being able to offer this service in the future.
  • Who runs the community e-bus service?
    Community volunteers are providing this bus service. It is managed by the Sandy Point Bus Management Committee Inc. (SPBMC)
  • Can I volunteer to help?
    Yes, please! If you can volunteer some time for help with admin or driving, regular or occasional, please email us at sandypointebus@gmail.com
